Newsletter - February

Welcome to the February update from CSC. The open is upon us and we are so pleased so many of you are giving it your all and taking part. March is set to be a cold month so make sure you wrap up, mobilise and keep active in the box during this cold spell. So let us kick off with our member of the month.


This month we are please to announce Matt Best as our Member of the Month

Matt has been a member with us since May 2014.  Matt has been hitting open gym and all the WODs recently and working on his weaknesses, asking questions and looking on ways to improve his performance.  He has taken all of the advice and worked hard to achieve the deserved success he his having.  Really well done Matt you have smashed it.

Firstly we want to let you know that due to the Stafford half Marathon we will be closed on the 18th March. The 2018 Stafford Half Marathon will start in Stafford Street (town centre) at 10am. The route will head off from the town centre on traffic-controlled roads, incorporating two steady climbs before returning to the Market Square via the iconic Victoria Park.

The box will also be closed on the bank holidays at the end of March and begining of april

Good Friday: Friday 30 March.
Easter Monday: Monday 2 April.

CSC Performance Workshop

In the near future, Tim Fearnett and Paul Shelley will be hosting a workshop to get people more in tune with Sports performance and training for health and fitness overall. The workshop date has yet to be set but we wanted to let you all know that we will be hosting this at some point in the future. The workshop will cover

COMPETITION NEWS.png

With the Crossfit open upon us and the competition season gets underway, we are asking for your contributions. as there are lots going on throughout the year we like to celebrate the achievements of our members and friends of CSC. If you are attending any competition, taking art r watching other members of CSC throwdown against others in the wider Crossfit Community, let us know. Either send us a message or drop us an email so we can celebrate your achievements here within the newsletter. It doesn't have to be all about CrossFit, it can be a 5k, 10k, half marathon, a three peaks challenge etc. we just want to know what makes you tick and keeps you reaching for greatness. 

So what is the CrossFit open? The Games season is broken up into three stages. The first stage is the Open. This five-week, five-workout competition is held in the winter in CrossFit affiliates and garage gyms around the world. Workouts are released online each Thursday, and athletes have until the following Monday to submit their scores.

Workout 18.1- Friday 23rd February
Workout 18.2- Friday 2nd March
Workout 18.3- Friday 9th March
Workout 18.4- Friday 16th March
Workout 18.5- Friday 23rd March

The Open is not only an event for athletes but spectators too, if you haven't signed up for a place in the open, please come down to CSC on a Friday night or Saturday morning and cheer on our members who are taking part. The event is all-inclusive and is a great way to test your metal.

Just a little reminder that we have a fantastic number of people going CSC on the tough mudder event Belvoir Castle on 20th May 2018

To sign for the event on the 2oth May 2018, simply head to the link below, purchase your ticket to the full Tough Mudder on the 2oth May 2018 and register. To join our team 'Chafing the Dream' head to your purchased ticket and click 'join the team'...then search for the team name and use password 'teamcsc' - if you do it right our organiser (Nick Fearnett) will get an email, so give him a shout and he can check.
We have gone for an early start again as it gives us more time on the course, but heading to a pub after to wash down the mud is a sure fact! 
Go for it folks - we want a monster team again from CSC and friends!

We also wanted to give a shout out to James Shilvock who took part in the Rainhill Winter Trials in February. James was tied for 26th place before he, unfortunately, had to pull out just before the last WOD. James achieved an overall placement of 38th overall. Great effort james, we hope to se yu flying the CSC colours at another competiotion soon.

FELIX THE CAT

This British Tribute WOD is dedicated to all the RLC EOD operators who expended their 9 lives and paid the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan. Among them they defused 100’s of explosive devices, saving countless lives. Gaz O’Donnel G.M., Dan Shepherd G.C., Oz Schmid G.C., Dan Read Q.G.M., Brett Linley G.M., Lisa Head. The RLC EOD left Afghanistan on the 26 October 2014.

"Felix is the unofficial mascot of British Army counter-terrorism bomb disposal. Cats have always been associated with luck, possibly due to their ‘righting reflex’ – an innate ability to always land on their feet. Felix (Latin for ‘happy’ or ‘lucky’) was the name given to the popular cartoon cat created by Otto Messmer in early 1900s America. He was a cheerful, thoughtful character who never failed to survive mayhem unscathed. These are traits much coveted by bomb disposal personnel and many bomb squads worldwide adopted Messmer’s ‘Felix the Cat’ as their symbol. There have even been some conventional munitions named after him."

The shortest month of the year has now flown by and we are moving into 2018 fast, with the Open workouts testing our abilities every week, we need to remember to take even more care of our bodies and make sure we implement our rest days in effectively!

There are many exciting things to look forward to at CSC this year so keep your eyes on the Blog and the posters around the box!#

Our main points this month;

  1. Be humble to your fellow members - You share a love for training, fitness and lifting but along side that you share a facility and space that requires humility and care for both.
  2. Pay respect to the Coaches - These guys care more about you than you do yourself, they spend more time on your programming than you do and they also analyse your movements far more than you do. So when they offer you advice please listen in the long term you will be grateful.
  3. Hold nothing back when you are moving well & always enjoy yourself!
