How long have you been coming to Central Staffs Crossfit.....

For about 6 months now.

What was your background in Fitness or Sport before you joined at CSC.........

I was a member of another Crossfit gym in London about a year before joining CSC but directly before I had been going to a standard gym. Most of my life however I didn’t really enjoy exercising and found it an absolute chore as I hadn’t found anything physical I enjoyed doing; at the gym I would happily go from one machine to another not putting much effort in and lacking motivation, finding that I never improved. I would also do the same exercise every time and would avoid ever focusing on my weaknesses like my upper body strength as I got frustrated.

How did you hear about Crossfit.....& how did you hear about CSC specifically....

Whilst living in London I one day had a total change of heart after getting out of breath going up the stairs at the age of 23(!), and decided it was time to get off my butt and start exercising properly and randomly signed up for an endurance event. I knew drastic action was needed as I was majorly unfit and a friend mentioned about Crossfit…it sounded so alien and way out of my comfort zone but dragged a workmate along and we were hooked! Before I moved to Stafford, I had looked to see if there was a Crossfit gym (a big must have J!) and was pleased to see CSC existed!

What do you enjoy the most about Crossfit at CSC.....

Everyone that attends and the coaches! It is a very positive environment and all progress is celebrated as a group, there is also a lot of encouragement whilst doing the WODs which I often need to push me through. The coaches have a wealth of knowledge, passion and I have a lot of respect for them and the advice they give; the little adjustments they suggest to the way you exercise makes such a difference to what you can achieve. It’s a great way to meet people as well, especially if you’re new to the area like me and don’t know anybody! The workouts are also so varied which always keeps it interesting, not knowing what’s instore when you turn up means that you don’t avoid the workouts which involve your weaknesses.

What changes have you seen physically and mentally within yourself since you started at CSC.....

Probably the biggest changes so far for me have been mentally, I have low self-esteem and anxiety and I think being in an environment which such a great community spirit, and realising since joining CSC that you don’t have to be an elite athlete to feel good about your achievements has been a massive boost. I still get anxious coming but the feeling I get after a challenging workout makes me forget all about it. Seeing changes in my body for the better, both with strength and fitness has also enhanced my confidence.

Would you recommend CSC + CF to friends, family & others......... If yes why....

Absolutely!! It is totally accessible to all ages and abilities through all the different scaling options, it certainly makes it less daunting knowing that you can build up to a more complex manoeuvre safely and at your own pace. My biggest regret is that I didn’t pluck up the courage and join sooner!
