CrossFit Open 2022

The CrossFit competition calendar kicks off with the CrossFit Open!

It starts on 24 Feb 2022 and this year is set to run over 3 weeks.

What is it?

The Open offers CrossFitters worldwide the opportunity to participate and compete in workouts spread over 3 weeks.

The Open begins on 24 Feb, with registration online open from now!

Workouts are released Friday and competitors have until the following Monday to submit scores.

Who can do the Open?

Anyone and everyone! If it's your first, or 1000th day doing CrossFit, the open is available to you!

There are various divisions for masters, teens, adaptive and age group so you can compare yourself to your peers in the box, in the UK and globally!

Do I have to sign up to the Open?

Nope! It is totally up to you.

The Open workouts will be the Friday WOD at the box to give those who have registered the opportunity to log a score and be judged. Everyone else who hasn’t registered online will also have the opportunity to tackle the workout.

There will not be an opportunity to re-test the workouts, so it provides an opportunity to send it on Friday!

How should I approach the workouts?

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself! It is a fun opportunity to compete.

Don’t be afraid to scale from the start.

Set a realistic goal at the beginning and keep it in mind through the open. Don’t move the goal posts once you have started.

Ask the coaches for a pacing strategy if you have no idea how to approach the workout. Short workouts you can generally go out hard and hang on, longer or two-part workouts require more pacing and strategy.

So why take part? 

This ones is easy, it’s fun. We all love the CrossFit community here at Central Staffs, and this is a chance for us to be a part of something even bigger! You can also test yourself, and use these workouts as a chance to push and see where you are (or where you need to focus post-lockdown).

All the coaches are ‘In the Open’ and we’d love to have you along for the ride!

 

What is the CrossFit Games?

We mentioned that the Open is the first stage to getting to the CrossFit Games. The Games is the pinnacle of the CrossFit season it’s the CrossFit Olympics, the world cup of CrossFit. They’re a week long competition to crown the Fittest on Earth – events range from a marathon row, to running and swimming, to out and out strength. The higher you finish in an event, the more points you get – and what do points make? They make you the Fittest on Earth!
